Where is everyone when I'm lonely late at night? Where are you when I need you? Late this night as I sit by the phone, Waiting for it to ring, as I have so many times, It sits stoically on my bedside table, Almost refusing to ring. Perhaps it knows how much I miss you, How much I need you this cold, lonely night. Perhaps it thinks I am wasting my time, As do I, sometimes, Sitting here waiting for you to call. It's nearly midnight now. I think I'll take a rest And let someone else watch the line for a while.

The years have flown by, And with them, some of my memories. The past has almost faded now, And the future is looming ahead. This time next year, I'll be sitting in a classroom; At least that's my fervent hope. For to be trapped here in this labyrinth That I've called a home for so long Would be impossible to endure any longer. This fortress I've been attending For the past quatrain of my life Is a place I've grown very fond of, And leaving it behind is a thought I've come to dread. The friendly faces within these walls Are faces that will stay with me forever. And the joys that we've all been through together Will eternally

Growing up in this neighborhood, I never noticed how different life could be. I always thought that everything was idyllic, Until someone woke me up. As we drove down the street, The scene went from bad to worse. On one side of the street was a masterpiece; On the other was a mound of dirt. Buildings get torn down every day And replaced with something new. Now matter how many businesses come, though, It seems as if nothing ever gets any better. There are still poor men in the streets There are still houses without heat There are still bellies with no meat And yet they say things are looking up.

I don't know what I want But I do know what I need. I need to be with you, I need you to hold me, I need you to tell me Everything is all right. Now I'm a woman, But I still feel like a girl. I don't know what to do with myself Or where to go from here. For most of my life, You've been by my side And my greatest hope Is that we'll never say goodbye.
